FAQs

I’ve never been to counseling. What should I expect?

The first session is usually getting to know you and your reason for seeking therapy. We’ll talk. And then we’ll create a path for you to get to where you want to be. It’s very much a collaborative process.

What can you help me with?

I have experience with addiction, trauma, anger management, relationship issues, depression, and anxiety. I can help in other areas, as well but if I can’t help you, I’ll tell you and refer you to someone who can.

How long is a session?

Each session is 50 minutes.

What do I need to know about online counseling?

I use a HIPAA-compliant platform for sessions that is double encrypted on both ends. You’ll need a secure and reliable connection that provides privacy so no public wifi. You can also have sessions using your phone, if that’s easier. You’ll receive a link to the session by text or email. Sometimes tech issues happen so I use HIPAA-compliant ZOOM as back up. And if that fails, we can have the session by phone or re-schedule. You should be familiar with technology basics like email, logging into online portals, switching browsers if needed, resetting your router, etc.

How do I know how many sessions I’ll need?

The number of sessions will depend on a lot of things, like: your treatment goals, how many goals, are there any underlying issues that might also need to be addressed, availability to attend sessions, how many sessions will insurance cover, etc. And, everyone is different.

What if I decide online isn’t for me after a couple sessions?

Online isn’t for everyone. I’ll make a referral to some in-person providers so you can find a better fit.
